GET READY TO DERBY!

If you are new to derby, and want to try things out to see if the sport is really for you, check out our Skate Camp! Our skate camp will be full of skaters who are new to the sport. We will teach you everything you need to know: derby form, balance, falls, starts, stops, weaving, stepping, hopping, pack skating, positional blocking, and much more!

Skate Camp is a six-week camp offered in two-hour sessions with a required orientation meeting prior to the first session. The cost is $36. $35 to the league to help pay for the facilities and $1 for a mouth guard. All other equipment is provided.

We will be holding two skate camps per year. One starting in August and one starting in January.

Next Skate Camp will be in August 2015:

Dates: N/A

OUR SKATE CAMP GOALS:

Teach the basics of roller derby to anyone interested in becoming a skater or referee.
Get a good workout.
Have Fun!

For those interested in joining the league as a skater, this camp is a starting point for becoming scrimmage-level eligible. Six weeks is not quite enough to get completely ready to scrimmage. After completing this camp, you will be encouraged to join the Fresh Meat Program to further build your skills and eventually join the league as a full member.

For those interested in joining the league as a referee, this camp will lead into further personalized training with our league referees.

This camp is open to men and women. Although our team is made up of female skaters, we welcome men to get involved in other areas such as referee functions (and have several that help already). You must be 18 or older.

WHERE IS PRACTICE?

The Portneuf Valley Bruisers hold indoor practices weekly at H&R Hockey rink on Bullard street (3765 Pole Line Road in the large yellow warehouses across from Kmart).

and please show up at least 15 minutes early to fill out paperwork and to get in gear!

DO I HAVE TO KNOW WHAT I’M DOING?

Not at all! Many skaters who are top players now all started not knowing a thing about skating!  In this camp we’ll teach you how to roll, stop, and even fall correctly; All the necessary moves of roller derby!

WHAT SHOULD I BRING?

You’ll need to bring a water bottle and $1 for a new mouth guard. We have pads, helmets, and skates for you to borrow. Pad and skate sizes are limited so if you have any of your own gear please bring that with you! And don’t forget to bring your desire to play and team spirit.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

Something you can move easily in. Any workout clothes that you can easily put on elbow/knee pads, and wrist guards over. And don’t forget to wear SOCKS!
